Limassol Cyprus

We had a bit of rock and roll last night, I felt it rocked me to sleep! My cabin location is fairly low and central, so pretty stable. A beautiful sunny day as we arrive into Limassol harbour. I had decided yesterday to book a shore excursion for Cyprus and I'm so glad I did! The drive to Omodos took about an hour, and went from the coastal plain through winding hills , terraced vineyards and small villages. Cyprus is divided between the Greeks and the Turks, we were on the Greek side. Omodos is one of many wine villages, and a popular spot for people from Limassol to come for Sunday brunch. It's really charming with it's winding streets, small shops and many restaurants. The Greek Orthodox church is very ornate and beautiful with some Russian icons and by tradition a piece of the rope that bound Jesus's wrists.

I did a wine tasting, the wine was all very good but the grappa was terrible! I bought a couple of bottles of wine, 9 euros each. We then had a coffee break in the main square. I had an iced latte - delicious! It's about 25 C with a nice breeze. I then went shopping, buying some locally made jewellery and then locally produced candied nuts dipped in pomegranate, honey or carob.

Back at the ship I had a snack and dropped off my purchases before taking the shuttle into town. About 15 minutes into the Old port area. It's hotter here, about 30C but a nice breeze. As it's Sunday it's very busy. Lots of families and groups of friends dining in the many restaurants around the marina. There is a promenade stretching along the waterfront, and the old market area which now has shops and restaurants. Limassol Castle is now a Medieval museum. There look to be some nice beaches further along but I was getting tired by then and decided to head back to the ship.
