Ashdod day 1
Our first port in Israel, so we need to get a PCR test before we're cleared to go ashore. Testing starts just after 8:30am onboard. I then have time for breakfast before going ashore to clear immigration. Then back onboard to wait for the test results.
Ashdod is a very big industrial port, very busy and quite noisy. The Norwegian Jade is berthed ahead of us. She carries approximately 3 times the passengers the Pursuit does, so looks huge!
We have a long wait for results. Everyone onboard had to be tested, and because it's PCR it takes longer. We had hoped to get results by about 2, but in the end it's 5:30pm before the all clear is sounded. Because it's so much later, our shore excursion to Tel Aviv and Jaffa is shortened. We have the option to cancel or go ahead with a slight reduction in cost. I decide to go ahead, and I'm very glad I did! Today is the eve of Holocaust memorial day, so fewer people around. It's a little over 1/2 hour drive from Ashdod to Tel Aviv. The skyline of Tel Aviv is amazing, so many interesting high-rise buildings, and so much construction going on! Beautiful beach area with many hotels and restaurants. The promenade along the waterfront is lovely, and many people are walking, biking or using their scooters. Lots of beach volleyball going on as well.
We have a walking tour in Jaffa. By this time it's dark and the town is all lit up beautifully. None of the shops are open, but still interesting walking through the small cobblestone alleyways. At the wishing bridge you are suppose to touch the symbol of your zodiac sign and make a wish.
By the time we get back to the ship it's about 9:30pm. Luckily the dining room is still open for us. I have a fantastic mixed seafood dish with prawns scallops and squid, and a cherry cheesecake. Now for bed as Jerusalem beckons tomorrow!
